Footage from the ground inside the ISIS-held Raqqa area shows a B-52 Stratofortress and an A-10 “Warthog” cruising the skies directly overhead, as well as the catastrophic aftermath damage the aircraft left in their wake after a series of heavy airstrikes.
Reports from the frontline suggest that SDF is now in complete control of Taqba Airbase as Western-backed SDF forces continue to make rapid gains just east of Raqqa. Raqqa, the Islamic State’s de facto capital in Syria, is now almost completely surrounded, and all major insurgent supply and travel routes have been cut off.
Taqba Airbase was the scene of a horrible massacre as it fell to ISIS in 2014. The base was under siege and the top Syrian military commanders fled the airfield aboard aircraft, abandoning hundreds of their troops without leadership.
ISIS rounded up the Syrian troops, stripped them naked, tortured them, marched them several miles into the desert, and made them dig their own graves before they executed them. What goes around, comes around.
