Arresting Cable Snaps On Aircraft Carrier, Sailors Injured

The US Navy says that human error is to blame for the March 18, 2016 arresting cable break incident aboard the USS Eisenhower flight deck that resulted in eight sailors being injured.

The following video of the event shows an E-2C Hawkeye attempting to land on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier, yet, due to incorrect maintenance procedures, a mechanical malfunction occurred in an engine that operates the flight deck cables, and the cable snapped, allowing the turboprop aircraft to continue off the end of the carrier strip. Quick action by the pilot brought the aircraft back to a safe altitude, at which point they flew to Norfolk Naval Station and landed safely.
