The Pentagon has announced that it will be sending around 200 additional troops, Apache attack choppers, and more artillery assets to bolster the siege to retake Mosul.

The additional troops will be used as advisors to local volunteer fighting forces around the city. The artillery assets that will be deployed are M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) which is a multiple launch rocket system mounted on a medium tactical vehicle. The effective range of the system far exceeds the current U.S. artillery guns already in Iraq.

The Pentagon has also said that they will be deploying AH-64 Apache gunships to give friendly fighters accurate and deadly close air support. They didn’t, however, disclose how many birds will be deployed. I’m hoping to see some fresh Apache gun cam footage from the Mosul fight in the near future.
