Iraqi Forces are preparing to retake the Islamic State held city of Ramadi after an embarrassing retreat earlier in the year. A Pentagon official claimed that troops from the Joint Operations Command for Anbar province had totally encircled the city and are now ready for the final assault.
The Islamic State force may be as large as a thousand fighters and they have been digging in, fortifying positions, and setting up tunnel systems for months. A high volume of coalition airstrikes has been pounding the city in an attempt to soften the Islamic State’s defenses prior to the siege.
