On February 13, 2010, Operation Moshtarak began as a massive operation to expel the Taliban from the insurgent stronghold of Marjah, it was the largest ISAF operation in the Afghan War until that point.
It consisted of a 15,000 strong joint task force comprised of 60% ANA and 40% ISAF who encircled the area and began clearing operations that turned wholly kinetic. It would later become known as The Battle Of Marjah.
The fighting was brutal throughout the 10 month battle. ISAF lost several troops, including 45 US service members and 13 British troops. The Taliban lost over 120 fighters in the first five days of the operation alone.
The following video from the battle shows Marines of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment reacting to enemy fire by destroying the firing position.
